City of Norwich School

CNS appoints a new Headteacher

City of Norwich School (CNS), an Ormiston Academy, is celebrating the appointment of Jo Philpott as its new Headteacher from September.

Ms Philpott, who is currently Head of School at CNS, will be continuing the strong leadership driven by Jim Nixon, who will be stepping down as headteacher in August after 40 years in education.

The school, which joined Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT) in 2014, was founded in 1910 and educates more than 1,500 students across the main school and sixth form centre.

The appointment follows the school’s glowing Ofsted report in November 2016, where it was rated ‘Good’, with ‘Outstanding’ leadership and management.

Paul Fisher, Chair of Governors at City of Norwich School said:

We are delighted that Jo Philpott will be the new Headteacher from September. The final panel was unanimous that Jo was the right appointment to lead City of Norwich School.

Jo Philpott said:

I feel deeply privileged to have the honour of being the new Headteacher at CNS and I’m looking forward to working closely with staff, students, parents and the whole school community.

Nicole McCartney, National Director of Performance and Partnerships and Managing Director (East) commented:

Jo has a wealth of experience behind her and has been a member of the senior leadership team at CNS for seven years. This is a fantastic appointment for CNS and I am looking forward to working closely with Jo as part of the Ormiston East family of schools.
