Headteacher's Message, Friday 15th September 2023

Part of CNS’s school vision is to have really strong and positive home-school relationships. The saying ‘It takes a village to raise a child’ is one that resonates with our ethos and values, and working together to support your child’s education and development is of great importance to me. As part of this we have already this year hosted welcome and information events for parents which have been well attended and praised for their usefulness. Last night we welcomed Year 7 parents to meet with their child’s form tutor and begin building a supportive relationship.

Last year we surveyed parents and staff about parents' evenings. The parental survey results returned a balanced response for online or face to face with advantages and disadvantages to both methods of communication. This information was used to inform the decision to:

  • retain an online booking system for all staff and parents ;
  • retain online evenings for Key Stage 3;
  • return to face-to-face evenings at Key Stage 4;
  • Year 12 parents’ evenings to be face-to-face with the targeted evening also being face-to-face ;
  • Year 13 parents’ evening to be online with the targeted evening being face-to-face.

I hope this will enable increased communication and help parents and carers to feel part of the CNS community.

The wet weather on Tuesday led to an increased number of parents collecting their children and a very unsafe situation on Eaton Road. Please can parking be respectful of our neighbours’ properties and drivers be respectful of each other and staff trying to help with traffic control.

It has been another excellent week at CNS and I hope everyone has a happy and restful weekend.
