City of Norwich School

Headteacher's Message, Friday 16th June 2023

The CNS Fest is rapidly approaching, and the school community is looking forward to an afternoon of events and activities. Our partners Guildhall Young Artists Norwich, National Tennis Association and Norwich City Football Club will all be running performances and participation events. Alongside this there will be many stalls, a raffle, student performances, and even a driving school. The funds raised are then reinvested in CNS in a variety of ways including new water dispensers which are both useful and eco-friendly. In the current hot weather, the water dispensers are in constant use, and I strongly advise students bringing in a water bottle, to make use of the facility. Several students spoke to me yesterday about how grateful they were for them, with one Year 9 student telling me ‘This is the best investment the school has made!’ I do hope you are able to attend the Fest and by doing so, help contribute to student centred projects such as this; I look forward to seeing you on June 24th.

A few years ago, Head Student Tim introduced school shorts to the CNS uniform. These are immensely popular and practical, especially in the warm weather. Last year we removed the need for branding due to cost, but they must be black, knee length, non-sport shorts. PE shorts cannot be worn, other than in PE, even in the heat; please expect your child to be challenged should they be wearing the incorrect shorts and wasting learning time by needing to go and change.

Last night colleagues welcomed next year’s Year 7 parents to a well-attended and enjoyable Information Evening at CNS. We are all looking forward to welcoming the new Year 7 to their transition days in July.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend in the beautiful June weather.
