Headteacher's Message, Friday 24th January 2020

Parents' Evening for Year 9 was vibrant last night with an excellent attendance and purposeful conversations. It is a great opportunity for me to catch up with parents on a variety of issues and I appreciate your feedback either verbally or via the parent questionnaires in order that we can do everything to support your child. If a teacher was absent, please do not hesitate to contact them via email in order that you can speak to them at a different time. If you were unable to attend, please contact the House Team who will contact teachers on your behalf for feedback.

Since Christmas we have seen an increase in the number of students with wireless headphones, smart watches and new phones. I would actively discourage these items being in school and if they are, they must not be seen or heard in line with the school policy or they will be confiscated and parents asked to collect them. Smart watches can be worn if they are used only as a time piece whereas other devices and earphones should not be used on the school site. The policy successfully supports a device free environment for our students to help them focus on lessons, to socialise better and to reduce social media use. I appreciate coming to collect your child’s device by 4pm can be an inconvenience and difficult to achieve, however the policy is clear, and students know they will be confiscated. If you are unable to collect the device, it is securely locked at school and can be collected on a different day.

I hope you have a good weekend and enjoy whatever you have planned.
