City of Norwich School

Meeting the Authors

As part of our Festival of Reading which will be taking place over the next two weeks, a group of students had the opportunity to meet three amazing authors at Norwich School on Tuesday 10th March.

The students were fascinated to hear from Sufiya Ahmed about breaking into writing after a career in investment banking and politics. One of her books, 'Secrets of the Henna Girl' tells the story of a young girl forced into marriage and it has won numerous awards. Her message to the students was to never give up on your dream of being a writer.

Pam Sym engaged the audience with drawings of weird dolls to harness their creativity if not their artistic skills!  Her description of the hours she dedicated to producing such a fantastic graphic novel was truly enlightening.

Finally, Alexander Gordon Smith shared his personal journey of creating horror stories. He fell into the genre to escape his own tumultuous past and the stories and scary props from his past had the audience scared and fascinated at the same time.  His final message was summed up in 'Heroism, Humanity and Hope'.

Mrs Tillyard, Assistant Head and Director or Co-learning said "All of our students were brilliantly engaged and a real credit to CNS. I hope it has encouraged some to take up their pen and write, but above all keep reading".
