City of Norwich School

Message from the Headteacher, 3rd November 2017

I always look forward to returning to school and embarking upon the next stage of the academic year. As the nights draw in and the mornings become colder, energy levels can sometimes suffer and the extended half term holiday is a means of ensuring the whole school community is refreshed and revitalised for the term ahead.

Returning to school after a break is a timely reminder for students with regards to school procedures. Can I ask that all expectations including; punctuality, attendance, correct uniform, phones in designated areas only and positives relationships are reinforced with students through support from parents and carers? This enables our community to have positive attitudes to school and focus on our core purpose of learning.

At the end of last half term, several of our Y11 and 12 students were involved in the Norwich Science Festival at The Forum. The students were fantastic ambassadors for the school, covering a range of independently studied topics and sharing their findings to the wider public. Science at CNS is quite stunning and the work that the team have done with the Youth STEMM award, led by Miss Nichols, has presented students with co-curricular opportunities that enhances their science and other subjects. In addition, our team of 4 Sixth Form maths students placed 5th out of 22 schools in the Norfolk Senior Maths Challenge; my congratulations to them all.

Next Thursday, we look forward to our Sixth Form Open Evening and sharing the amazing work of our students and staff. Having experienced CNS Sixth Form as a leader, teacher and parent, I am hugely proud of the breadth of curriculum, enrichment opportunities and focus on independence that our Sixth Form provides. We warmly invite all our Y11 students, parents and carers to the evening and cannot emphasise enough, how informative the evening will be in helping to determine post-16 choices.

I am looking forward to this weekend, as my middle son is returning to Norwich for the weekend. I hope you have a good weekend and enjoy whatever you have planned.
