Obituary
Nick Stone, teacher of modern foreign languages, sadly passed away in hospital on the 2nd January 2022 from Covid-19, at the age of 55.
Nick was the longest-serving teacher at City of Norwich School (CNS), part of Ormiston Academy Trust, having completed over 30 years of service at the school.
He was born in Sheffield and his family moved to Wisbech when he was 14 years old, where he attended Wisbech Grammar School. He followed this with a degree at the University of East Anglia and while there he was offered the opportunity to spend a year abroad in the South of France. Once his degree was completed, Nick began a PGCE at CNS and then continued working at the school for the rest of his life. As well as MFL teacher, Nick was also International Learning and Enrichment Co-ordinator and was responsible for organising and managing the student trips and visits including leading his annual visit to Paris.
Nick’s sister Helen said “Nick had such a talent for languages, it was unbelievable. He also spoke German and a little bit of Spanish. CNS was in his blood. The school and teaching were his whole life, he absolutely loved it”
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of a highly-respected and much-loved teacher, colleague and friend, Mr Nick Stone. Nick worked at CNS for over thirty years and was unwavering in his commitment to the thousands of students he taught, and colleagues he worked alongside. He contributed a huge amount during his time at our school and whilst he will be sorely missed by everyone, he will always be fondly remembered as an integral member of our tight-knit CNS community.” Jo Philpott, Headteacher at CNS
Nick leaves behind his mother Carol, his father John, sister Helen, niece Madeleine, nephew William and brother-in-law Wayne.
The funeral service will take place on Friday 4th February at 2pm at All Saints Church, Walsoken (The Rectory, Church Road, Wisbech PE13 3RA) and then at 3.15pm at Mintlyn Crematorium, Lynn Road, King's Lynn PE32 1HB.
