Match Report by Mr.O'Brien

We were delighted when asked to host the final here at CNS and the advantage of a 'home crowd' and a smaller pitch give us a buzz and a 'we have nothing to lost attitude.'

The team trained hard in preparation, so much so we lost 2nd row Jack Codling to injury a few days before the game! Wym started fast and attacked with pace from the kick off. Poor defending lead to us being 10-0 down after 10 mins.

The forwards finally got the ball through a few phases of play, Joel Holderness 'punching' holes through their defence before Will Hart got hands on the ball and charged through to score. 5-10, we were right back in it. It was very even with both sides playing well. A mistake that could have led to a try for us was turned over 5 metres short from their line and they managed to counter-attack and score just before the half. 15-5 half time. The half time talk was very much "we can do this"!

We started the second half ready well. Toba’s defence at 10 stopped Wym moving the ball outside and he was winning the turnover ball too, allowing Dylan Brandon to pick and go. We scored 15-12. Wym replayed straightaway and moved the ball wide as quick as possible, and scored. 20-12. Wym playing to their strengths contained to move every ball wide and scored again  25-12.

With time running out the game plan was to go direct, keep it tight and it was working,  we upped the tempo and had Wym on the back foot. We scored 25-17, with only minutes left, it was Wym who wanted the whistle to go. We were very much up for it, but unfortunately ran out of time!

This was a fantastic game to watch and the many parents, from both sides, got to watch an exciting game from start to finish. Even as both sides got their medals there was a sensation of class in the atmosphere for both teams and what they had achieved. The whole team worked so hard for this, and proved as massive underdogs they could step up and compete with anyone! This team has achieved an unbelievable amount this year to reach this Final, and they will continue to thrive, already with their eye on the County Bowl Cup, we are not done yet!
