Youth STEMM Award applications now open
The Youth STEMM (Science, Technology. Engineering, Maths and Medicine) Award applications are now open for Year 9 students going into Year 10 in September 2018.
The Youth STEMM Award (YSA) enables students to claim accreditation for a variety of Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine based activities and projects that they can get involved with either in school or in their own time. The award is designed to run very much like the Duke of Edinburgh’s award, where they work with assessors in difference skill areas to develop skills and knowledge.
It has proven to be a very successful Award and the students gain a huge amount from the scheme. During Years 10 and 11 students can work towards the bronze or silver award, depending on the hours assimilated. The cost of the project is £15 per student which includes an ePortfolio log book, medals, awards evening, and mid-year conferences.
Students must be aware that they will need to complete a minimum of 45 hours to complete any award and therefore should consider the implications on their time management before applying. Much of this relies on their ability to organise themselves and be proactive in arranging their own events.
Places are limited and will be popular, so we ask each student wanting to take part to write a brief application letter as to why they would be ideal candidates to take part in this scheme and to give this to Miss Spinks by 15th September 2018.
